Love Red

Ok here's the deal. I love red, would like red in the wedding. Bridesmaids that I picked out might not look so hot in the dark red I am thinking, so now I have an issue. one has asked me not to make her dress in red. So, i'm asking for suggestions. I've looked at gold and red, and the gold colors I'm finding are not actually what I'm thinking in my head and also I'm not sure how gold would look with a cream wedding dress (yeah I don't want a white one). There's black duh, but not colorful enough for me, so I'm at a lost for right now. Peter says to give up red, but I'm just not ready for that yet. And I know it's probably something silly to think about considering we don't have a date, location or anything, but I have to start feeling like I'm moving ahead. Plus, it gets my mind off irritating annoyances from work or life in general. So any suggestions would be great. We were going to have a fall wedding, but that might not be so anymore. So it's all up to you.

hmm... gold, depending on the sheen and fabric (maybe like a light amber?) could look nice with a cream dress. I say, go for a red wedding dress. who says it has to be white, off-white, ivory, etc etc? Or, you could have gold bridesmaid dresses with red stitching or a red sash (use red as an accent color on the dress).

I thought that gold was harder to make look good with most skin tones... does the b.m. that doesn't like the red idea look awful in it or just not like it? because you can veto!!! become bridezilla!!! muahahahahaha. um. helpful suggestions, i'm not so good at however. you might want to consult someone who specializes in wedding and bridemaid dresses :)

it's your wedding, exactly. dress color is not something to argue over. Dress style, however, is something you will definitely be confronted with... and thinking about it, gold and cream on next to each other on the color wheel, so you'd actually look washed out next to the bridesmaids...

1. Do you want them to be all exactly-match, or do you not care? Cuz she could wear a red scarf or something with the dress of her choice. heck they could all wear red scarves with the dress of their choice. (black + red scarf still is red. Big scarf. i've seen this done, and it looks very cool (and IS colorful), and everyone already has a black dress, and that's kinda nice too, and then nobody hates you for the 'zilla thing and makeing them spend hundreds of dollars on some icky frock they'll never look at again.) Or at my cousin's wedding we all wore different shades of blue. if she looks better in a different shade of red .. ? (i recently discovered, after over two decades not thinking so, i look a lot better in red than i think. Other people might have this misconception as well.) i think i'm coming off in favor of non-matchy-matchy here, which is great. :)

2. You can totally make her wear red. Or pink. Or hot pink or magenta or puce. that's why you're the bride, and she's not the bride. When it is her wedding she can make you wear bright turquoise blue if she wants (no, i'm not bitter...) Take her opinion into account, but when it comes down to it, yours (well, and his) is the one that matters. She could always bring a sweater to wear after pictures, too.

3. I've seen you in red. Totally hot. you might want to think about it :)

Yeah I totally wanted to do the red wedding dress, believe me! But my mother has some weird huge objections to it. And well, can't say no to my mom. dammit crazy parental control.

I just don't want to be that crazy bride that makes someone wear something they really don't like but these are some good ideas! Thanks! Oh and thanks Liz for the comment.

maybe you should throw in some red accents to your dress. I care less about color as I do style. short waist with no boobs and big hips makes dress buying horrendous.

haha, you should have heard the dress person on the phone when i ordered christy's dress, well the top half is a size 2, bottom is a 4ish....but you should fit or you can have the bottom taken out. haha. great. I'm feeling ya Sam.

I check that site every week it seems. That's a great site. Doesn't make me feel as stupid as I feel sometimes with this stuff. I think it's mostly because I don't have my gals here helping me out. I mean mom, she's country, not a great help, brothers...well enough said.

OMG, don't talk about Christy's bridesmaid dress! It's lovely and all, but my god, I'm going to have to have the bust taken in probably 50%!!! Not happy about that. But that's all my own fault ;)

Anyway, as long as you put some thought into it (but not enough to go insane) you'll do alright!

Try to convince your mother that your man is part Chinese. Red is the traditional wedding dress color in China (go figure)

it could be worse. When i was in my cousin's wedding they ordered me a size 14 (damn one-pieces) and had to take in everything except the bust, and it *still* didn't fit.

oh and did i mention that christy's dresses were made for people about 5' 9"!!! haha, yeah going to need some tailoring there. Bistro, I'll try to work on that chinese idea. That cracked me up.

I've decided I'm going to try to find a location first. Take my mind off the dress thing. Then I'll go and take a look and see what the dresses actually look like in person.

usually, you don't decide on bm dresses until 6-7 months prior to the wedding. unless, of course, the season impacts your color (my mom had to order dresses in September because she wanted poppy and that's not a "spring color")

see i'm just trying to envision the whole damn thing and then start from there. and that's why we were thinking fall, so it's not too close to christy's and with the colors red and gold and have candle light everywhere. but we'll see. i had to start somewhere.

wait... not too close to christy's... but it's a year off of christy's, right? 2007? not next fall?

i don't know...i know brooks is in the summer, christy's in the spring...i was hoping for the fall, but it's looking like it might not be until the earliest of spring/summer 07

so what you're saying is that I should be prepared for yet another summer chock-full of weddings?

well it's not for sure. That's what I'm trying not to do. But at the same time, I want it to be beautiful and not 10 years down the road so it's still up in the air.

I say, go for the fall 2006 wedding. tell your bm that she has to wear red, because you'd wear puke green for her if she asked. this is your day (and partially your mom's :D).
